Positano Tourist Attractions: Picture of the town's outstanding beachfrontThe main reason that so many tourists come to Positano each summer is without doubt for the town's beautiful pebbly beachfront and related water sports attractions. Whatever the time of year, the coastline around Positano is a joy, although the main tourist attractions are at their very best during the summer months, when the bougainvillea is in full bloom, including boat trips and cruises, windsurfing and a number of harbour front cafes.

For superb coastal vistas across Positano and its many attractions, without the need for too much exertion, tourists should consider taking a stroll along the Via Positanesi d'America, a cliffside pathway linking both the Spiaggia del Fornillo and the Spiaggia Grande beaches. When you reach your destination, you will be able to relax and enjoy a refreshing chilled drink on the beachfront terrace.

There are two main beaches in Positano, the Spiaggia del Fornillo and the Spiaggia Grande, each of which has something quite different to offer visitors in the way of beachfront attractions. The Spiaggia del Fornillo is the smaller of these two beaches and tends to be more secluded. Diving enthusiasts will find that the Centro Sub Costiera Amalfitana operates a number of diving excursions from the Fornillo. However, the number one beach in Positano is the Spiaggia Grande, which is home to a bustling port and is very much central to the action. Various water sports are available at both the Fornillo and Grande beaches, such as windsurfing, snorkelling and sailing, while many simply prefer to soak up the rays of Italian sun on the smooth pebbles, or enjoy a game of beach volleyball.

If money is no object, you can even hire your own speedboat, complete with 'capitana', who will be happy to take you on a very memorable trip around the outlying islands.

People who visit Positano often spend less time on the actual beaches hiring chairs and umbrellas, but more time exploring the coastal region and all of its many appealing attractions. Many hiking trails are available along the Amalfi Coast and although they are often a little challenging, the views are more than worth the effort. Keen walkers should consider setting side an entire day to walk along the 'Path of the Gods' (Sentiero degli Dei), a steep trail which connects Positano with the neighbouring towns of Praiano and Conca dei Marini, where the Grotta dello Smeraldo (Green Grotto / Emerald Grotto) is a must-see.
